How To Achieve Your Goals in 2018…
Happy New Year and welcome to 2018!
What does the new year mean to you?
So we have all heard of the saying new year, new start…so how will you start your 2018 and what do you want it to look like throughout the year? It’s all well and good saying that this year is a fresh start but it’s vital that if you want change, you have to do something which is ‘different’.
What do you truly want to do which is different to what you have done before, this is what causes growth otherwise we do the same things and experience the same results. So you may want to:
- Visit a new country
- Create a blog
- Start a business
- Get that dream job
- Seek that perfect partner
- Have a designated family day
- Give up a habit and create a new one
No matter what goals/goals you want to achieve please make sure that they cause you to grow. Don’t just do what you are already comfortable with doing. Here is a process which may help you achieve a slightly bigger goal or may help you stay on track towards your achievements.
Goal
State what your goal is e.g. “I want to lose 1 stone in 2018”. This may sound basic but first of all it’s specific and secondly its time bound. Make sure your goal is specific and when you want it to be achieved by, it could be changed to “I want to lose 1 stone by April 2018”. This will produce a stricter timeline to achieve your goal by.
Task
So now you have your goal make sure you have tasks which keep you on track to achieving the goal. Ideally you want to have three tasks, all of which are relevant to the goal e.g. “I will exercise 3 times a week, I will only have 1 sugar in my tea/coffee once a day, I will only consume a maximum 2000 calories per day”. As you can see these are specific tasks which will help you to stay on track to achieving the goal.
Why?
Knowing why is a key which so many forget to remember. Once you state why it’s not only important to achieve your goal but also if you don’t what the negatives of that will be, you have a winning formula. With this in mind you remind yourself of what the positives are once you do achieve your goal but also the pain/negative you will experience if you don’t do as you have set out to do.
