5 Uncomfortable ‘Musts’ To Help You Grow In Life
Start being comfortable with being uncomfortable…
Do you want to grow in life?
I bet there are loads of ‘things’ you want to do in life – maybe its to go traveling, learn something new or just break free from your daily routine? So many of us want to experience different results in life, so I have created 5 ideas which will help you grow as a result of feeling uncomfortable (the very ingredient which holds so many of us back).
Network with strangers
The thought of mingling and socialising with others who are outside of our comfort zone can be crippling for many of us. The importance of this though can not be underestimated! See when we break free from our normal social circle, it causes us to concentrate on what we are talking about and how see are saying certain points. This is important because we can get so use to talking to the same people about the same things, this keeping us caught up on the same topics of discussion and never really expanding our minds. Networking with others is a must to help you grow, I understand it can make you feel uncomfortable but it will cause you to grow as an individual.
Reading a book
Some people hate reading, they find it boring and others may often use the excuse of not finding the time to read. The flip side to this and a recommendation of mine is that you can listen to someone else read via YouTube or audible. Reading is great for exercising your memory, creativity and obviously knowledge depending on what topic you are reading about. It can also have the positive impact of sharpening the mind, act as a beneficial form of escapism (as you can lose yourself in the book) and act as a substitute of mediation which may help you relax. Reading will help you to grow and trust me once you create the habit of reading you will be hooked!
Time to yourself!
I personally know of people who cannot be on their own, they have to be surrounded by others, they have to be busy and occupied doing something. Take time to be on your own, to gather your thoughts, listen to some music, take a walk and enjoy you and your time by yourself.
Learn something new
No matter what industry you are in you must continually learn, when we learn we are not only gaining knowledge but we are becoming a master in what we currently do. The other option is to learn something to do with what you would like to do e.g. if you have a full time job and you want to create your own business, learning about elements of business will help you progress. Other key factors which help you grow whilst learning include – concentration, focus, motivation and a sense of gaining competence.
Public speaking…
What? Publicly speak out Ross I can’t do that! Maybe you can’t but I would say this is a great way to be uncomfortable and grow at the same time. The reason being is because unless you have the confidence to speak out (and I don’t mean stand in front of 2,000 people presenting something) you won’t be heard, you will disappear. Instead make sure you speak up for yourself, ask for that promotion, present your work in front of others and know you have all the confidence within you to be the best you possibly can be.
